Saudi Aramco Research Science Institute (SARSI) 2015

Continuing their excellent path in the programs of King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (MAWHIBA) , three more DAS students (grade 10) qualified to join MAWHIBA International Summer Programs for summer 2015, from June 7, 2015 – July 9, 2015.

Our students qualified to join a program entitled “Saudi Aramco Research Science Institute SARSI” among a total of 24 top nation-wide students (female only). Saudi Aramco adopted this program from MIT University, USA and it will be hosted by University of Dammam. The program aims at preparing and conducting scientific research projects in the fields of Math, Science and Engineering. The students get the opportunity to be trained by scientists and experts in the various fields.

The qualified students are: Noor Nizar Al Khunaiza, Yasmine Faisal Al Morwhen and Rania Abdullah Al Ghamdi.

    Soccer Al Saad Championship In the Al Saad Schools’ Soccer Championship that took place from April 19-30, 2015, Dhahran Ahliyya High School Team received the 3rd place and bronze medals. Manchester United Championship Sponsored by Saudi Telecom Company (STC), Manchester United Soccer Championship took place from April 11-13, 2015, at Al Sa’ad Schools. Dhahran Ahliyya Middle School Team received the 3rd place and bronze medals. Also, we would like to congratulate our students Yousef Ismail and Tariq Abdi for qualifying to join Manchester United Summer Camp during this coming summer. Swimming DAS Students, Stars of DPSL Swimming Championship In the DPSL Swimming Championship that took place on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, in the Green Hall, DAS Intermediate Team won the First Place Cup and gold medals and DAS High School Team won the Second Place Cup and silver medals.   • Social Entrepreneurship Program

    All grade 10 students at Dhahran Ahliyya Schools participated collectively in a 1-month community service training program entiliteld “Social Entrepreneurship Program”, from October 19th,2014 – November 15th, 2014. This program aimed at promoting community service and the culture of donating among the students. This pogram combined two aspects of training – the theoretical aspect in which the students were exposed to training programs like; “Steps towards your Social Serivce Project”, “How to Work?” and “The Capital Market” and the practical aspect where the students accomplished some community services projects targeting different groups.   • National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity “Ibda’a”

    Organized by King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness & Creativity (Mawhiba), the 2015, the local National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity–Innovation and Scientific Research Fields took place on Wednesday, November 19th, 2014. Proudly, out of the 90 DAS Participants, Forty-eight qualified to participate in the next round of competition at the provincial level, with a total of total of 33 projects: 21 are for the scientific research field and 12 for the innovation field. The school would like to congratulate all the students who qualified. We wish them much success as they continue in the subsequent rounds of the competition.   • National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity “Ibda’a”

    Organized by King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness & Creativity (Mawhiba) in partnership with the Ministry of Education, the 2015 province-wide National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity–Innovation and Scientific Research Fields took place on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 2-3, 2014. A total of 48 DAS students participated in this round with 33 projects. We are proud that 7 Research Projects and 1 Innovation qualified to participate in the next round which will be a Kingdom-wide competition. It is worth mentioning that Dhahran Ahliyya 7 projects are the only projects which qualified from the Eastern Province in the competition.   • 5th Intel. Science Competition for the Arab World

    Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development in partnership with Intel. Company and the Supreme Education Council, Qatar – for the 1st time - hosted the 5th Intel. Science Competition for the Arab World. The competition took place from November 9 to 11, 2014, in the Qatar National Convention Center. We are happy to announce that two of the students from Dhahran Ahliyya Schools participated in this competition- Razi Al Alqam and Abduljabbar Al Hamoud. The students were awarded the third place in the field of Medicine and Microbiology for their project- Exhausting Ralstonia Metallidurans to Produce Gold Alongside Supplementary Metals. It Is worth mentioning that more than 100 students, both male and female, representing 9 Arab countries from the Middle East and North Africa, participated in this competition and introduced about 70 scientific projects in six different fields such as; medicine, engineering and chemistry. Intel Science Competition is an annual competition for science, technology, engineering and math open to students from grades 9 – 12 world-wide. For this achievement, we would like to congratulate the winners, their parents and DAS staff. Congratulations!

    In light of Dhahran Ahliyya students’ exceptional and consistent performance in General Aptitude Tests (Qudarat), DAS Boys’ Section, has secured First Place for the seventh consecutive year and the Girls’ Section, has secured Second Place for the fourth consecutive year. These achievements were ranked among all the Kingdom-wide government and private schools for the year 2014. The school would like to extend heartfelt thanks and appreciation to DAS faculty and staff for their sincere efforts in supporting the students.   • National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity “Ibdaa 2015”

    Organized by King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness & Creativity (Mawhiba), in partnership with the Ministry of Education, 2015,the Kingdom -wide National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity– Innovation and Scientific Research Fields, took place from February 2-8, 2015, in Riyadh. More than 600 scientific projects and innovations conducted by the most promising students Kingdom wide were presented in this round of the Olympiad. Dhahran Ahiyya’s boys section qualified to take part in this round with a total of 7 research projects and 1 innovation.   • DAS Accomplishment in FTC Robotics Championship

    Proceeding to their victories in the Robotics Championships, Dhahran Ahliyya team: FTM participated in the 2015 First Tech Challenge Championship that took place on Febraury 28th, 2015, in Czech Republic. Our school team won the 3rd place of the championship and received the Motivate Award. The team comprised of Hassan Al Jishi, Ahmed Alabduljabbar, Razi Al Alqam, Abduljabbar Al Hamoud, Saleh Al Hamad, Abdullah Al Qatar and Ammar Al Qatari. Congratulations!
  • DAS Accomplishment in VEX Robotics Championship

    In the 2015 VEX Robotics Compitition that took place on Febraury 15th, 2015 in London, Dhahran Ahliyya Secondary Team took part and competed against 48 teams from both inside and outside the United Kingdom. We are proud that Dhahran Ahliyya’s team achieved the 1st Arab accomplishment in this compition. Our students received the 6th place award in Missions. Furthermore, DAS team was awarded with the Sportsmanship Award. DAS students gave an impressive impression to all participants, refrees and their peers. They displayed an excellent representation of their school and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The team comprised of Sharif Samir, Mohammed Bukhashem, Moath Al Zayer, Mohammed Al Abdulkareem, Faisal Al Hamad, Sultan Al Qahtani, Ali Bukhamseen and Mohammed Al Zamil.   • 2015 Sixth Science Conference for Higher Education Students

    Nominated by King Abdul-Aziz and his Companions for Giftedness and Creativity (MAWHIBA), Saleh Abdullatif Al Hamad, grade 12, took part in the 2015 Sixth Science Conference for Higher Education Students, which took place in Jeddah from March 30-April 2, 2015. Saleh qualified to participate in this conference along with other high school students Kingdom-wide to compete with higher education students in the fields of “Innovation and Scientific Research”. Saleh received the seventh place in the conference. It is worth mentioning that this nomination is the first of it is kind among the high school students in this conference. Congratulations!
  • SABIC Awards Ceremony

    SABIC Company organized an Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, April 8th, 2015, in Riyadh. SABIC honored the students, both boys and girls, for receiving their Special Awards during the 2015 Kingdom-wide National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity “Ibda’a”. Dhahran Ahliyya’s student, Razi Ali Al Alqam from grade 12, was given an award for his project “The Metabolism of Erythrocytes in Sickle Cell Anemia” in the Scientific Research Field. Furthermore, Dhahran Ahliyya’s student, Yasmine Shakir Al Faraj from grade 12, was given an award for her project “A Novel Ligand for Metal-Ligand Cooperative Catalysis: Transfer Hydrogenation of Ketones” in the Scientific Research Field. Congratulations to Razi and Yasmine. We wish them much success as they continue in the final round of this competition

  • MAWHIBA International Summer Programs

    A group of Dhahran Ahliyya’s grade 11 and 12 students qualified among hundreds of applicants to join MAWHIBA International Summer Programs from June 5th-July 15th, 2015, for the summer of 2015. MAWHIBA International Summer Programs aim at preparing Saudi students to enroll in the top international universities. They also aim at boosting high school students’ research abilities in fields of Math, Science and Engineering. Some of the qualified students will join summer programs at international universities outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The other group will join the Saudi Research Science Institute (SRSI) at King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (KAUST) competing with a total of 40 top nation-wide students –both male and female.   • 2015 INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair

    Four DAS students qualified to complete in the 2015 INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair held from May 10-15, 2015 in Petersburg, Pennsylvania in the United States of America. This was as a result of their qualifying in the National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity Kingdom-wide and then winning all the workshops rounds. The students are Saleh Al Hamad and Abduljabbar Al Hamoud- grade 12- from the Boys’ school, and Yasmine Al Faraj- grade 12- and Yasmine Al Saif- grade 10- from the Girls’ school. The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) is the world's largest international pre-college science competition. More than 1,700 of the world’s most promising young scientists, engineers and mathematicians compete for approximately $5 million in awards and scholarships www.student.societyforscience.org “ Continuing on Dhahran Ahliyya’s students’ annual successful path in this competition, Abdul Jabbar Al Hamood won the 1st Grand Award in the field of Plant Sciences for his research project “ Viral Mediated Genome Editing Using CRISRR/Cos9 System”. Abdul Jabbar also won the Best of Category Award in the field. Furthermore, he received a Special Award to attend Stockholm International Youth Science Seminar (SIYSS) which will take place in Sweden. The SIYSS is a multi-disciplinary seminar highlighting some of the most remarkable achievements by young scientists from around the world. The students have the opportunity to attend the Nobel lectures and experience the Nobel festivities. It is worth indicating that only 3 students worldwide were awarded this special award. We are proud of Abdul Jabbar’s winnings, our students’ successes in this competition annually and of all the achievements the Saudi delegates have accomplished for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.     26th International Invention and Innovation Exhibition Two DAS students qualified to compete in the 26th International Invention and Innovation Exhibition ITEX 2015 which took place from May 21-23, 2015, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The students qualified at the National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity Kingdom-wide and then winning all the workshops rounds. The students are Ammar Abdulrazzaq Al Amir and Bara’ Abdulrazzaq Al Amir from grade 10. ITEX is Asia’s largest leading invention exhibition. Gathering the world’s most prolific inventors aged 20 years and below, ITEX provides a platform for the students to flaunt their discoveries. It also allows these youths to meet like-minded young inventors and their mentors from neighboring countries and around the world. A plethora of invention enthusiasts attend the exhibition and it is supported by an ever increasing attention from business communities. In ITEX 2015, more than 1500 students- both male and female- showcased more than 100 scientific projects in the categories of engineering, equipment …etc. For their Innovation “Telescopic Allen Key Driver “, Ammar and Bara’a Al Amir won the Gold Medal worldwide in the category of machine and equipment. This medal is given to three competitor only. Ammar and Bara’a’s team is the only foreign team who received this medal in that category. Furthermore, they received a Special Award from the International Inventions Organization in Thailand. Congratulations to Ammar and Bara’a for this achievement and to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for Saudi delegates’ achievements.   • “Building Excellence” Honors Dhahran Ahliyya’s Principals

    Sponsored by the Governor of Al Khobar and attended by the General Director of Education in the Eastern Province, the Office of Education in Dhahran organized an honoring ceremony entitled “Building Excellence” on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2015 at Movenpick in Khobar. The ceremony was attended by a group of businessmen, education leaders, region leaders and the sponsors. We are pleased to announce that Mr. Waleed Al Sowailem – DAS General Director (boys’ school), Mr. Abdulmuhsin Batyour - DAS Intermediate and Secondary School Principal (boys’ school) and Mr. Kamal Al Aqeel - DAS Elementary School Principal (boys’ school) were honored in this ceremony among a total of 36 other schools’ principals in Dhahran. At the end of the ceremony, the Governor of Al Khobar honored Mr. Khalid Al Turki- DAS President for sponsoring this “Building Excellence” ceremony. Congratulations.
  • Prince Khalid Al Faisal Honors the Winners of INTEL ISEF and ITEX 2015

    Prince Khalid Al Faisal- the Counselor of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Deputy President of King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (MAWHIBA) honored the winning students (both male and female) in the International Science and Engineering Fair (INTEL ISEF 2015) and in the 26th International Invention and Innovation Exhibition (ITEX 2015) on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2015 at his palace in Jeddah. Out of nine honored students Kingdom-wide (males), three Dhahran Ahliyya Students were honored on this day. The students are: Abduljabbar Al Hamoud- Grade 12- for the awards he received in INTEL ISEF 2015 and Ammar Abdulrazzaq Al Amir and Bara’ Abdulrazzaq Al Amir –Grade 10- for the medal and the award they received in ITEX 2015. In appreciation of his valuable role in supporting the talented students, Ammar and Bara’ presented a memorial trophy to Prince Khalid Al Faisal. Congratulations to our honored students.     In order to achieve the Ministry of Education’s strategic goal- to prepare the students educationally and culturally to interact locally and globally and achieve the first places in the fields of Math and Science, the 2nd round of the province-wide 2015 Math Olympiad took place on Tuesday, November 18th, 2014. On a happy note, a group of DAS students from grades 6,7 and 8 participated and qualified to participate in the third round of the competition.     Organized by King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness & Creativity (Mawhiba), the 3rd phase of training programs for Math, Chemistry and Physics Olympiads took place from September 21st to October 11th, 2014, in Al Khobar. Aseel Al Madani from grade 10 joined the training program and received 3rd place Kingdom-wide in the Chemistry field for both girls and boys. Aseel qualified to join the 4th phase of this training program which will take place outside the Kingdom.

  • DAS's Students Accomplishments in the Winter Training Programs for Math,Chemistry and Physics Olympiads

    Organized by King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness & Creativity (Mawhiba), the 4rd phase of the Winter Training Programs for Math, Chemistry and Physics Olympiads took place from January 17th -27th, 2015, in Riyadh. In the Chemistry Olympiad, Aseel Ameed Al Madani from grade 10 joined the training program and received 3rd place and the bronze medal Kingdom-wide for both girls and boys. As for the Mathematics Olympiad, Jana Mohammed Al Showiya from grade 8 joined the training program and received 3rd place and the bronze medal Kingdom-wide for both girls and boys, as well. Aseel and Jana qualified to join the upcoming Spring Training Programs for Math, Chemistry Olympiads which will take place in Riyadh soon. It is worth mentioning that Dhahran Ahliyya’s 4 students are the only students qualifies from the Eastern Province to join these Winter Training Programs in the field of Mathematics.     Organized by King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness & Creativity (Mawhiba), in partnership with the Ministry of Education, the Kingdom -wide National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity for 2015,– Innovation and Scientific Research Fields, took place from February 2-8, 2015, in Riyadh. More than 600 scientific projects and innovations created by the most promising students in the Kingdom were presented in this round of the Olympiad. Three students from Dhahran Ahiyya’s girl section qualified to take part in this round with a total of 3 research projects.     Dhahran Ahliyya Students; Yasmine Al Faraj- Grade 12- and Yasmine Al Saif-Grade 11 received honor and recognition from Princess Abeer Bint Faisal Al Saud, wife of the Governor of the Eastern Province, on Monday, April 6th, 2015. This recognition came as a result of both students’ qualification to participate in the 2015 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair which will take place in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, on May 9th, 2015.     Nominated by King Abdul-Aziz and his Companions for Giftedness and Creativity (MAWHIBA), Yasmine Shakir Al Faraj, grade 12, took part in the 2015 Sixth Science Conference for Higher Education Students, which took place in Jeddah from March 30-April 2, 2015. Yasmine qualified to participate in this conference along with other high school students Kingdom-wide to compete with higher education students in the field of “Innovation”. Yasmine ranked among the top 10 students through the conference. The organizers, however, have not stated specific student ranks. Congratulations!
  • Mawhiba Training Program in Math, Chemistry and Physics Olympiads

A group of Dhahran Ahliyya students qualified to take part in this program.   • Recognition Ceremony for Meritorious Students

    On Thursday, April 16th, 2015, the Office of Education for Educational Affairs in Khobar organized a Recognition Ceremony for Meritorious Students across Al Khobar. The purpose of this ceremony is to honor and recognize those students who either achieved academic excellence or ranked top places in local and international competitions. In this ceremony, the Office of Education awarded a group of Dhahran Ahliyya’s students in different grade levels.   • 2015 Eighth National Robot Olympiad

    Nine teams from Dhahran Ahliyya Schools- Girls’ side, from Elementary, Intermediate and Secondary participated in the 2015 Eighth National Robot During this Olympiad, our students made remarkable accomplishments:Olympiad at the level of the Eastern Province. This competition took place on Sunday and Monday, April 19 & 20, 2015 at the Third Intermediate School in the fields of STEM, SUMO and RoboCop. In STEM field, one of DAS Intermediate Teams won the Second Place, the Team Spirit Award and Best Design Award. The team comprised of Fatima Al Sabti and Leena Al Zayer from Grade 7. As for the RoboCop field, another DAS Intermediate Team won the Best Design Award. The students are Joud Al Essa from Grade 7 and Zeena Al Abandi from Grade 8. Furthermore, the High School Team received the Best Technical Programming Award in the same field. The team comprised of Deema Al Abduljabbar and Rania Al Ghamdi of Grade 10.     Sponsored by the Volunteer Work Community in the Ministry of Social Affairs, six DAS students established a volunteer team entitled “Adrenaline Team” since July 18, 2014 till date. The team aims at instilling the love of giving and taking initiative within youth. Through the activities they organize, the team also aims at reinforcing volunteering culture. On Friday October 17th, 2014, the team ranked First in the competition of “Vision Award” on their projects for 2014/2015. The team organized a festival for the children of Autism and Special Needs. It also made a project called “NABTA”. Also, on Thursday, February 12, 2015, the team was honored in the “Social Responsibility Forum” that was organized by the Ministry of Social Affairs.     Six Dhahran Ahliyya’s Grade 11 Students qualified among hundreds of applicants to join MAWHIBA International Summer Programs for summer 2015 from June 5th-July 15th, 2015 in the Saudi Research Science Institute (SRSI) at King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (KAUST). A total of 40 top nation-wide students –both male and female- will participate in this program. KAUST adopted this program from MIT University, USA for the purpose of preparing Saudi students to enroll in the top international universities. It aims at boosting high school students’ research abilities in fields of Math, Science and Engineering. The students get to the opportunity to be trained by scientists and experts in the fields.   • “My Website” Program

    The Administration of Gifted Students in the Ministry of Education Office in Al Khobar organized a technical 10 -week training program for a total of 42 hours from February 16th- March 3rd, 2015, entitled “My Website”. The program aims at developing and designing websites that serve the purpose of community service. Dhahran Ahliyya’s student Nawras Mohammed Al Zayer- Grade 10/Diploma Stream- participated in this program and competed among another 12 students from different schools Al Khobar-wide. Nawras developed and designed her website “My Writing, My Hobby”. The website aims at encouraging the talent of writing within children and introducing the stages of writing and types of books. It also helps parents to prepare their special needs children for reading and writing. In the honoring ceremony that took place on Wednesday, May 6th, 2015 at Al Trbiya Private Schools, Nawras received the Golden Excellence Award and the Highest Number of Votes among the attendees.     Organized by King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness & Creativity (Mawhiba), the Province wide 6th Training Program for Math Olympiads took place from April 6-13, 2015, in Al Khobar. In this training, another group of students from Dhahran Ahliyya qualified to participate in the Kingdom-wide Summer Forum which will take place in Riyadh. The students are: Fatima Al Sabti- grade 7, Dalal Al Jabr and Turaya Sabri- grade 6. As a result, these students will join their peers who qualified earlier to participate in this forum. Therefore, the total number of participants form Dhahran Ahliyya Schools has become six students, from both Elementary and Intermediate, which is the largest number of participants from one school Kingdom-wide. Also, it is worth indicating that Dhahran Ahliyya’s students will represent the Eastern Province as they are the only students qualified from the province to join the Summer Forum in the field of Mathematics.   • 5th Intel. Science Competition for the Arab World

    Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development in partnership with Intel. Company and the Supreme Education Council, Qatar – for the 1st time - hosted the 5th Intel. Science Competition for the Arab World. The competition took place from November 9 to 11, 2014, in the Qatar National Convention Center. We are happy to announce that two of the students from Dhahran Ahliyya Schools participated in this competition- Razi Al Alqam and Abduljabbar Al Hamoud. The students were awarded the third place in the field of Medicine and Microbiology for their project- Exhausting Ralstonia Metallidurans to Produce Gold Alongside Supplementary Metals. It Is worth mentioning that more than 100 students, both male and female, representing 9 Arab countries from the Middle East and North Africa, participated in this competition and introduced about 70 scientific projects in six different fields such as; medicine, engineering and chemistry. Intel Science Competition is an annual competition for science, technology, engineering and math open to students from grades 9 – 12 world-wide.   • DAS Accomplishment in VEX Robotics Championship

    In the 2015 VEX Robotics Compitition that took place on Febraury 15th, 2015 in London, Dhahran Ahliyya Secondary Team took part and competed against 48 teams from both inside and outside the United Kingdom. We are proud that Dhahran Ahliyya’s team achieved the 1st Arab accomplishment in this compition. Our students received the 6th place award in Missions. Furthermore, DAS team was awarded with the Sportsmanship Award. DAS students gave an impressive impression to all participants, refrees and their peers. They displayed an excellent representation of their school and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The team comprised of Sharif Samir, Mohammed Bukhashem, Moath Al Zayer, Mohammed Al Abdulkareem, Faisal Al Hamad, Sultan Al Qahtani, Ali Bukhamseen and Mohammed Al Zamil. Mr. Ismail Al Jamal accompanied and supervised the students during their trip. Congratulations!
  • 2015 Sixth Science Conference for Higher Education Students

    Nominated by King Abdul-Aziz and his Companions for Giftedness and Creativity (MAWHIBA), Saleh Abdullatif Al Hamad, grade 12, took part in the 2015 Sixth Science Conference for Higher Education Students, which took place in Jeddah from March 30-April 2, 2015. Saleh qualified to participate in this conference along with other high school students Kingdom-wide to compete with higher education students in the fields of “Innovation and Scientific Research”. Saleh received the seventh place in the conference. It is worth mentioning that this nomination is the first of it is kind among the high school students in this conference. Congratulations!
  • SABIC Awards Ceremony

    SABIC Company organized an Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, April 8th, 2015, in Riyadh. SABIC honored the students, both boys and girls, for receiving their Special Awards during the 2015 Kingdom-wide National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity “Ibda’a”. Dhahran Ahliyya’s student, Razi Ali Al Alqam from grade 12, was given an award for his project “The Metabolism of Erythrocytes in Sickle Cell Anemia” in the Scientific Research Field. Furthermore, Dhahran Ahliyya’s student, Yasmine Shakir Al Faraj from grade 12, was given an award for her project “A Novel Ligand for Metal-Ligand Cooperative Catalysis: Transfer Hydrogenation of Ketones” in the Scientific Research Field.     A group of Dhahran Ahliyya’s grade 11 and 12 students qualified among hundreds of applicants to join MAWHIBA International Summer Programs from June 5th-July 15th, 2015, for the summer of 2015. MAWHIBA International Summer Programs aim at preparing Saudi students to enroll in the top international universities. They also aim at boosting high school students’ research abilities in fields of Math, Science and Engineering. Some of the qualified students will join summer programs at international universities outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The other group will join the Saudi Research Science Institute (SRSI) at King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (KAUST) competing with a total of 40 top nation-wide students –both male and female.   • 2015 INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair

    Four DAS students qualified to complete in the 2015 INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair held from May 10-15, 2015 in Petersburg, Pennsylvania in the United States of America. This was as a result of their qualifying in the National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity Kingdom-wide and then winning all the workshops rounds. The students are Saleh Al Hamad and Abduljabbar Al Hamoud- grade 12- from the Boys’ school, and Yasmine Al Faraj- grade 12- and Yasmine Al Saif- grade 10- from the Girls’ school. The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) is the world's largest international pre-college science competition. More than 1,700 of the world’s most promising young scientists, engineers and mathematicians compete for approximately $5 million in awards and scholarships www.student.societyforscience.org “ Continuing on Dhahran Ahliyya’s students’ annual successful path in this competition, Abdul Jabbar Al Hamood won the 1st Grand Award in the field of Plant Sciences for his research project “ Viral Mediated Genome Editing Using CRISRR/Cos9 System”. Abdul Jabbar also won the Best of Category Award in the field. Furthermore, he received a Special Award to attend Stockholm International Youth Science Seminar (SIYSS) which will take place in Sweden. The SIYSS is a multi-disciplinary seminar highlighting some of the most remarkable achievements by young scientists from around the world. The students have the opportunity to attend the Nobel lectures and experience the Nobel festivities. It is worth indicating that only 3 students worldwide were awarded this special award. We are proud of Abdul Jabbar’s winnings, our students’ successes in this competition annually and of all the achievements the Saudi delegates have accomplished for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.     26th International Invention and Innovation Exhibition Two DAS students qualified to compete in the 26th International Invention and Innovation Exhibition ITEX 2015 which took place from May 21-23, 2015, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The students qualified at the National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity Kingdom-wide and then winning all the workshops rounds. The students are Ammar Abdulrazzaq Al Amir and Bara’ Abdulrazzaq Al Amir from grade 10. ITEX is Asia’s largest leading invention exhibition. Gathering the world’s most prolific inventors aged 20 years and below, ITEX provides a platform for the students to flaunt their discoveries. It also allows these youths to meet like-minded young inventors and their mentors from neighboring countries and around the world. A plethora of invention enthusiasts attend the exhibition and it is supported by an ever increasing attention from business communities. In ITEX 2015, more than 1500 students- both male and female- showcased more than 100 scientific projects in the categories of engineering, equipment …etc. For their Innovation “Telescopic Allen Key Driver “, Ammar and Bara’a Al Amir won the Gold Medal worldwide in the category of machine and equipment. This medal is given to three competitor only. Ammar and Bara’a’s team is the only foreign team who received this medal in that category. Furthermore, they received a Special Award from the International Inventions Organization in Thailand. Congratulations to Ammar and Bara’a for this achievement and to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for Saudi delegates’ achievements.   • “Building Excellence” Honors Dhahran Ahliyya’s Principals

    Sponsored by the Governor of Al Khobar and attended by the General Director of Education in the Eastern Province, the Office of Education in Dhahran organized an honoring ceremony entitled “Building Excellence” on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2015 at Movenpick in Khobar. The ceremony was attended by a group of businessmen, education leaders, region leaders and the sponsors. We are pleased to announce that Mr. Waleed Al Sowailem – DAS General Director (boys’ school), Mr. Abdulmuhsin Batyour - DAS Intermediate and Secondary School Principal (boys’ school) and Mr. Kamal Al Aqeel - DAS Elementary School Principal (boys’ school) were honored in this ceremony among a total of 36 other schools’ principals in Dhahran. At the end of the ceremony, the Governor of Al Khobar honored Mr. Khalid Al Turki- DAS President for sponsoring this “Building Excellence” ceremony. Congratulations.
  • Prince Khalid Al Faisal Honors the Winners of INTEL ISEF and ITEX 2015

    Prince Khalid Al Faisal- the Counselor of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Deputy President of King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (MAWHIBA) honored the winning students (both male and female) in the International Science and Engineering Fair (INTEL ISEF 2015) and in the 26th International Invention and Innovation Exhibition (ITEX 2015) on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2015 at his palace in Jeddah. Out of nine honored students Kingdom-wide (males), three Dhahran Ahliyya Students were honored on this day. The students are: Abduljabbar Al Hamoud- Grade 12- for the awards he received in INTEL ISEF 2015 and Ammar Abdulrazzaq Al Amir and Bara’ Abdulrazzaq Al Amir –Grade 10- for the medal and the award they received in ITEX 2015. In appreciation of his valuable role in supporting the talented students, Ammar and Bara’ presented a memorial trophy to Prince Khalid Al Faisal. Congratulations to our honored students.     In order to achieve the Ministry of Education’s strategic goal- to prepare the students educationally and culturally to interact locally and globally and achieve the first places in the fields of Math and Science, the 2nd round of the province-wide 2015 Math Olympiad took place on Tuesday, November 18th, 2014.     Organized by King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness & Creativity (Mawhiba), the 4rd phase of the Winter Training Programs for Math, Chemistry and Physics Olympiads took place from January 17th -27th, 2015, in Riyadh. In the Chemistry Olympiad, Aseel Ameed Al Madani from grade 10 joined the training program and received 3rd place and the bronze medal Kingdom-wide for both girls and boys. As for the Mathematics Olympiad, Jana Mohammed Al Showiya from grade 8 joined the training program and received 3rd place and the bronze medal Kingdom-wide for both girls and boys, as well. Aseel and Jana qualified to join the upcoming Spring Training Programs for Math, Chemistry Olympiads which will take place in Riyadh soon.     On Thursday, April 16th, 2015, the Office of Education for Educational Affairs in Khobar organized a Recognition Ceremony for Meritorious Students across Al Khobar. The purpose of this ceremony is to honor and recognize those students who either achieved academic excellence or ranked top places in local and international competitions.   • 2015 Eighth National Robot Olympiad

    Nine teams from Dhahran Ahliyya Schools- Girls’ side, from Elementary, Intermediate and Secondary participated in the 2015 Eighth National Robot During this Olympiad, our students made remarkable accomplishments:Olympiad at the level of the Eastern Province. This competition took place on Sunday and Monday, April 19 & 20, 2015 at the Third Intermediate School in the fields of STEM, SUMO and RoboCop. In STEM field, one of DAS Intermediate Teams won the Second Place, the Team Spirit Award and Best Design Award. The team comprised of Fatima Al Sabti and Leena Al Zayer from Grade 7. As for the RoboCop field, another DAS Intermediate Team won the Best Design Award. The students are Joud Al Essa from Grade 7 and Zeena Al Abandi from Grade 8. Furthermore, the High School Team received the Best Technical Programming Award in the same field. The team comprised of Deema Al Abduljabbar and Rania Al Ghamdi of Grade 10.     Sponsored by the Volunteer Work Community in the Ministry of Social Affairs, six DAS students established a volunteer team entitled “Adrenaline Team” since July 18, 2014 till date. The team aims at instilling the love of giving and taking initiative within youth. Through the activities they organize, the team also aims at reinforcing volunteering culture. On Friday October 17th, 2014, the team ranked First in the competition of “Vision Award” on their projects for 2014/2015. The team organized a festival for the children of Autism and Special Needs. It also made a project called “NABTA”. Also, on Thursday, February 12, 2015, the team was honored in the “Social Responsibility Forum” that was organized by the Ministry of Social Affairs.     The Administration of Gifted Students in the Ministry of Education Office in Al Khobar organized a technical 10 -week training program for a total of 42 hours from February 16th- March 3rd, 2015, entitled “My Website”. The program aims at developing and designing websites that serve the purpose of community service. Dhahran Ahliyya’s student Nawras Mohammed Al Zayer- Grade 10/Diploma Stream- participated in this program and competed among another 12 students from different schools Al Khobar-wide. Nawras developed and designed her website “My Writing, My Hobby”. The website aims at encouraging the talent of writing within children and introducing the stages of writing and types of books. It also helps parents to prepare their special needs children for reading and writing. In the honoring ceremony that took place on Wednesday, May 6th, 2015 at Al Trbiya Private Schools, Nawras received the Golden Excellence Award and the Highest Number of Votes among the attendees. In this training, another group of students from Dhahran Ahliyya qualified to participate in the Kingdom-wide Summer Forum which will take place in Riyadh. The students are: Fatima Al Sabti- grade 7, Dalal Al Jabr and Turaya Sabri- grade 6. As a result, these students will join their peers who qualified earlier to participate in this forum. Therefore, the total number of participants form Dhahran Ahliyya Schools has become six students, from both Elementary and Intermediate, which is the largest number of participants from one school Kingdom-wide. Also, it is worth indicating that Dhahran Ahliyya’s students will represent the Eastern Province as they are the only students qualified from the province to join the Summer Forum in the field of Mathematics. Our students qualified to join a program entitled “Saudi Aramco Research Science Institute SARSI” among a total of 24 top nation-wide students (female only). Saudi Aramco adopted this program from MIT University, USA and it will be hosted by University of Dammam. The program aims at preparing and conducting scientific research projects in the fields of Math, Science and Engineering. The students get the opportunity to be trained by scientists and experts in the various fields. The qualified students are: Noor Nizar Al Khunaiza, Yasmine Faisal Al Morwhen and Rania Abdullah Al Ghamdi. We wish our students the best of luck.
  • Mawhiba Training Program in Math, Chemistry and Physics Olympiads

    Organized by King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness & Creativity (Mawhiba), the Kingdom-wide Summer Forum Training Program took place from May 26 – June 15, 2015, in Princess Noura University in Riyadh. A group of Dhahran Ahliyya students qualified to take part in this program. The students are: Jana Al Shwyia, Zeena Al Abandi and Leena Al Shaikh -Grade 8- , Fatima Al Sabti -Grade 7-, Dalal Al Jabr -Grade 6 (Mathematics Field) and Aseel Al Amadani- Grade 10 (Chemistry Field). Our students made the following achievements: Math Olympiad: Fatima Osama Al Sabti – Grade 7- won the First Place in Level Zero. Dalal Hassan Al Jabr- Grade6- won the Second Place in Level Zero. Jana Mohammed Al Shwyia-Grade 8- won the Third Place in Level One. Chemistry Olympiad: Aseel Ameed Al Madani won the First Place in level one. Congratulations!
  • Honoring Ceremony of the General Directorate of Education in the Eastern Province

    The General Directorate of Education in the Eastern Province organized an honoring celebration to honor the students –both male and female- who participated in the 2015 INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair that took place in Petersburg, Pennsylvania in the United States of America. Two DAS students were honored in this ceremony for their winnings in the Kingdom-wide Olympiads (Scientific Research Field). The students are: Yasmine Shakir Al Faraj for receiving the Fifth Place and a Special award from SABIC Yasmine Zaki Al Saif- Grade 10- for receiving the Sixth Place. Congratulation
