MYP Projects

MYP Projects

MYP projects provide students the opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned in the MYP.

In MYP year 3, Grade 8, all students must complete a community project. This community project is a collaborative in-depth inquiry that focuses on community and service. It encourages students to explore their rights and responsibilities to participate in service as action in the community.

In MYP year 4 through year 5, Grade 9-10, all students must complete a personal project. This project is a student-centered and age-appropriate practical exploration in which students consolidate their learning throughout the programme. The personal project reports are externally moderated by the IB to ensure a globally consistent standard of excellence. These internationally recognized awards validate student learning and can support university admission applications.

MYP Community Projects

As eighth graders in the Middle Years Programme (MYP3), DAS students embark on a wonderful journey of learning and exploration through completing the mandatory Community Project course. The Community Project is a graded subject included in the final report card, designed as an in-depth inquiry that focuses on community and service. It aims to help students raise awareness, participate actively, conduct research, inform others, create and innovate, change behaviour, or advocate for meaningful causes.

The project consists of four main components — a community service, a process journal, a reflection paper, and an exhibition — and is completed in small groups of students supervised by a mentor who supports them throughout the project. Scheduled for two periods each week, it is completed by the end of the year.

Through this experience, the Community Project encourages students to explore their right and responsibility to participate in service as action in the community, to become aware of needs in various communities and address them through service learning, and to practice and strengthen their learning skills. It also empowers them to connect classroom learning with personal experience, and to reflect on their learning while sharing knowledge, views, and opinions with others.

Personal Projects

The Personal Project is a personal inquiry into a topic or field the student is passionate about and interested in. It may be a research project, a writing project, an artwork, or any creative work. It consists of four main components: a product, a project process journal, a written report, and an exhibition. It is scheduled for two periods each week, where students work individually under the supervision of a mentor who supports them throughout the project. The project begins in the second semester of Grade 9 (MYP4) and continues through Grade 10 (MYP5). It is a subject included in the final report, and its grades are counted. Families are also involved both in the process of choosing the topic and in attending the project exhibition to view the final works created by the students.

The Personal Project encourages students to practice and strengthen their learning skills, connect classroom learning with personal experience, undertake a personal inquiry process while working and reflecting on specific topics and issues, reflect on their learning and share knowledge, perspectives, and opinions with others, and develop their own interests for lifelong learning.
