Dhahran Ahliyya Schools is an authorized IB PYP (Primary Years Programme) school. The IB Primary Years Programme ranges from Pre-KG to Grade 5 and focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and the global society.
PYP and DAS share the belief that the students learn best when they are exposed to authentic real-world experiences and reflect upon their learning. Students build their own knowledge and incorporate new information in their schema to develop their understanding. The PYP incorporates real-world knowledge into six transdisciplinary themes, where the learning is not confined within the boundaries of traditional subject areas but is supported and enriched by them. PYP students have agency, they take responsibility and ownership of their learning and put their knowledge into action to make a positive change locally and globally. At DAS, we teach concepts, skills, and knowledge to support the development of international mindedness in our students.
Action, the core of student agency, is integral to the PYP learning process. DAS puts international mindedness into action by connecting learner agency to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We use the SDGs to bring global issues into our classrooms and spread awareness about the world around them to develop empathy, take action and bring about change.
Being a bilingual school, we have two homeroom teachers working together cooperatively inside each classroom to teach:
• Arabic and English languages
• Mathematics
• Social Studies
• Science
• Subject specific teachers are responsible for Religious Studies, Arts, ICT and PSPE.
